01Mid-Atlantic wetland & stream credits

The discipline of a well run business.A passion for the environment.

Evergreen Environmental was formed for the purpose of building wetland and stream mitigation banks. We locate the site, design it, build it, and carry the performance guarantee — across Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

02Why banking

Mitigation banking is the favoured way to compensate for wetland and stream impacts.

Federal policy has moved steadily toward off-site banks and away from in-lieu fee programmes and on-site mitigation. For a permit applicant that means one thing: buying credits from an established bank is usually the fastest, most certain route to an approved permit.

We were formed to build those banks — not to advise from a distance.

03Watershed by watershed

Credits are not fungible. Geography decides.

Approval is granted on a watershed basis, so the bank you buy from has to sit in the right one. Our sites are developed in the Potomac and Rappahannock watersheds in Virginia and on the Delaware Bay in New Jersey.

05Off-site mitigation

If a bank is not the answer, we carry the whole obligation instead.

For permit applicants with off-site mitigation responsibilities, we take it end to end:

  • Site searches and assessment
  • Mitigation design and permitting
  • Construction and planting management
  • Wetland delineations
  • Performance monitoring
  • Reporting to regulatory authorities

06Who you get

Three partners. Sixty-five years of it.

Delineation, permitting and design; ecological restoration and aquatic ecology; and — unusually for this business — a Chief Underwriting Officer who spent 24 years pricing risk. That last part is why the performance guarantee is not an afterthought.

Worked with

The partners have worked with Airport Authorities, Turnpike Authorities, Departments of Transportation, and commercial and residential developers.

From the field

Notes from three sites.

Stipson's Island Road

Hydric soils mapping and aerial photography assessment, with Phragmites and Spartina identified across the site. Restoration centred on removal of the tide gate.

Wetland Restoration, Fauquier County

Beaver activity monitored and managed — uncontrolled, it causes significant damage to planted trees.
